Build Your Lawn Business with Turf Love: Cornell Cooperative Workshops
There will be two special roundtable workshops, sponsored by Cornell University's Cooperative Extension, for those professionals interested in the turf (lawn) industry
Last year, the first group of homeowners in Putnam County participated in Turf Love - a Cornell University Cooperative Extension program that taught IPM lawn care principles to protect water quality. At the end of the season the homeowners had many questions. That is where the nurseries/retailers and landscapers come in.
These professionals are the resources that the homeowners go to for reliable, knowledgeable advice. Not only will this workshop address those questions but there will also be an opportunity to discuss other issues facing the turf industry including: using less fuel to do business, responding to growing regulations, looking forward to and encouraging an environmentally conscious customer base.
However, this is only part of the workshop objective. Information will also be shared on how to irrigate, mow, fertilize and handle weeds. It is equally important for the turf professional to consider stocking least toxic and organic products, zero-phosphorus fertilizers and high-value seed mixes.
There will be two distinct workshops offered. Both to be held at the Spain Cornerstone Park Building, 1 Fair Street, Carmel on Tuesdays 8am to 12 noon (Registration starts at 7:45am). There is a $10 per person fee for each program.
Please note the different focus groups for each roundtable workshops: Landscapers - February 26 Nursery/retailers - March 4
Pre-registration is required. Contact Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County at 845-278-6738 or view www.cce.cornell.edu
