Stony Kill Farm Offers Outdoor Programs for March

March over to Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center this month to explore the trails, learn about trees, listen to stories and enjoy the outdoors. Call (845) 831-8780 ext 300 for more information. No need to pre-register and all programs are free.

Explore Nature on Snowshoes - Saturday, March 1 at 2pm. Snow conditions permitting, strap on snowshoes as Native Americans have done for hundreds of years, and enjoy a bracing winter excursion in search of wildlife tracks and traces. If there is not enough snow, we'll go for a winter walk instead.

Know, Know, Know Your Oaks! - Saturday, March 8 at 2pm. Demystify winter tree identification by learning to use bark, bud, and twig characteristics to tell trees apart without their leaves.

End-Of-Winter Stories - Saturday, March 15 at 2pm. According to local Native American tradition, winter is the time for storytelling. Before the rush of spring begins, come for a relaxing hour of cold weather stories from various cultures around the world.

You Can Help Stop Climate Change - Saturday, March 22 at 2pm. Learn about the steps all of us can take to meet the challenge of climate change without sacrificing quality of life. Games, crafts, and even solar cooking!

First Signs of Spring Walk - Saturday, March 29 at 2pm. Even before the trees leaf out, early flowering plants like skunk cabbage, and the mating calls of wood frogs herald the arrival of spring. An easy walk will take place on the wooded trails in search of these and other spring harbingers.

Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center is owned and operated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and is located on Route 9D in Wappingers Falls, about 2 miles north of the Beacon Newburgh bridge (I-84). Call 845-831-8780, ext 300, or visit http://www.dec.ny.gov/ education/1833.html for program listings and things you and your family can do at Stony Kill Farm.
