Painted Snapshots: a 'Two days Only' Exhibit by Jes Minardi at Skybaby Building

Painted Snapshots
Steve and Cecile Lindstedt are pleased to present an exhibition of new work by wellknown Hudson River artist Jes Minardi. This will be the artist's first local exhibit in ten years. The exhibit will be open for two days only: March 15 and 16, 2008, with an opening reception on Saturday, March 15 from 4-7pm; the Sunday hours are 11am-5pm.

What does a landscape painter do when their hands are literally tied? Take snapshots and dream of how the scenes will look once painted. This is the basis for the body of work to be shown on March 15, at the Skybaby Building in Cold Spring. For almost a year, Jes was hit with a physical condition that locked her arms to her sides. Unable to fling paint to the canvas, she would be driven to places she longed to paint, to shoot snapshots that later would become the substance of this show. Now with great energy, the works in this exhibit are those snapshots transformed.

When the artist describes the landscape in paint the image transcends the visual, and speaks to a place within us all that with certainty is recognized, but cannot be put into words. In this exhibition, you will view approximately twenty landscape paintings painted with a distinctive style by an artist who draws from lifetime memories of hiking the surrounding Garrison and Cold Spring hills, which gave her deep love and enduring connection to the natural vista. The strength of the compositions is based upon a pronounced underlying geometry combined with this reverence for the landscape and years of study of the history of landscape painting.

The Skybaby Building is located at 75 Main Street, 2nd Floor, in Cold Spring. Use side entrance on Rock Street (through the rainbow doors) 2nd floor.
