Patagonia Meets the Poconos in Imaginary Landscapes at M.J. Art
Fernando Uriel Salomone's imaginary landscapes will be on exhibit at M.J. ART in Beacon, March 9 through April 5, 2008. The work of the Argentinean painter intercepts Patagonia and the Poconos, as he draws from his memories of the "starkly beautiful and windswept region of mountains and treeless valleys" where he grew up, as well as the Pennsylvania region where he now retreats to paint.
Salomone's minimalist yet subtle depiction of plowed fields, prairies and deserts, shouldered by vanishing mountains under boundless skies, invite dreaming and departure. The mark of the artist's palette is his use of ochre: "I use ochre color. I use ochre on top of green, blue, brown," said Salomone.
Salomone studied at the Prilidiano Pureyrredon School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His work has shown in New York City and the Delaware Water Gap. A NYC resident, he teaches fitness and aerobics in Upper West Side.
Under the title Moods of the Country, Salomone's oils will show at M.J. ART March 8 through April 5. Opening reception is Saturday, March 8, 4-6 P.M. Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday, 12-6pm, and by appointment. For more information, call 917-592- 5694.
