Putnam Chorale to Perform the Music of des Prez at Their Spring Concert
The Putnam Chorale, under the direction of Douglas Anderson, announces its Spring 2008 program: Music's First Superstar! This program feature the music of Josquin des Prez and his Renaissance legacy featuring his greatest hits: Ave Maria, El Grillo, Scaramella, Mille Regrets, and Absalon Fili Mi, and more, as well as Janequin's Les Cris de Paris, and Palestrina's Gloria (from the Pope Marcellus Mass).
Josquin Lebloitte (nicknamed Josquin des Prez) a Franco-Flemish composer (about 1450- 1521), has been described by many as being on a par with Michelangelo in architecture, painting and sculpture and to be the first master of the high Renaissance style of polyphonic vocal music that was emerging during his lifetime. Josquin wrote both sacred and secular music, and in all of the significant vocal forms of the age.
Join the Chorale and enjoy the wonderful melodies and harmonies that are the roots of the music we know today.
The Chorale will be joined by special guest instrumentalists and soloists who will bring this music of the ages to life. Your company will make the experience even more pleasurable.
The performances will take place as follows:
-Saturday, April 26, 2008, 8pm, First United Methodist Church
Main Street, Brewster
-Sunday, April 27, 2008, 3pm, Gilead Presbyterian Church
