Change in Saturday, March 8 Irish Program Presented by Local AARP Chapter #1183

The AARP Chapter #1183 Irish program planned for Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 2pm at Guideposts (Seminary Hill Road) in Carmel, will have a special program, amended due to insurance guidelines. Instead of the originally scheduled dancers, there will be a program featuring "Story-Teller" Jim McGuire. Jim has a Masters Degree from Hunter College in Theater Arts and has been renowned for over twenty years throughout the county for his stories. He will tell "Irish Stories" in his own inimitable way.

Along with the spirit of the day, Arline Hay-O'Brien, talented singer and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer) member, will direct everyone in a "songfest" of Irish songs. She is a leader of songs with the RSVP Singer- Chorus Group that is taken by bus by the Putnam County Office for Aging each Monday to entertain at local nursing homes. For many years this group has brought happy smiles, hand-clapping, and audience participation to shutins and rehabilitation patients all over Putnam, Westchester, and Dutchess County Nursing Homes. Their line-dancing and exuberant singing brings joy to residents and a happy volunteer activity to the members of the group. They not only use the dancing to keep their bodies in top physical condition, but the dancing and singing "routines" exercise their minds for good health.

All local AARP members and their friends are welcome to come to the Saturday, March 8, 2pm program at Guideposts in Carmel, NY. Come and join the fun, and you may even want to be a regular part of this local AARP chapter that has a meeting every second Saturday of the month, September through June. The April program will have a "Silent Auction" fundraiser and the May program will have Mahopac SeniorNet members presenting their computer programs and uses for the personal computer. June will be an end-of-the season luncheon. For information call President John Zaborney at 845-277-3149.
