Sheriff Reports Numerous Traffic Arrests

Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that his deputies have made numerous recent traffic arrests. Deputy Sheriff Matthew Boscia was on patrol on Route 9 in the Town of Philipstown on February 9, 2008 at 1:20am when he observed a motorist commit a moving violation. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the deputy determined that the driver, Angelica R. Toledo, 38, of 49 Diddell Road, Wappingers Falls, was driving with a suspended license. The deputy placed Ms. Toledo under arrest and charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was released in her own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.

Deputy Sheriff Alexander Ruhe was on patrol on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast on February 9, 2008 when he observed a vehicle equipment violation. The deputy effected a traffic stop and determined that the driver, Daniel Cordero, 21, of 568 Danbury Road, New Milford, Connecticut, had been operating while his driving privileges were suspended in New York State. The deputy arrested Mr. Cordero and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released on $250 cash bail pending a March 4, 2008 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.

Deputy Sheriff Jason Quick was on patrol on Wood Street in the Town of Putnam Valley on February 14, 2008 at 1:41am when he observed a motorist fail to stop at a stop sign. Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy determined that the driver, Daniel J. Gilligan, 48, of 22 Pine Cone Road, Carmel, was driving with a suspended license. The deputy arrested Mr. Gilligan and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, misdemeanor. The defendant was released in his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court.

First Sergeant Paul Boscia was on patrol on Route 301 in the Town of Putnam Valley on February 14, 2008 at 2:45pm when he observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the northbound exit ramp of the Taconic State Parkway. The First Sergeant stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver, Hakeem J. Hansen, 24, of 12 Channingville Road, Wappingers Falls, had been driving with a suspended license. The First Sergeant placed Mr. Hansen under arrest and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released on bail pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court.

Deputy Sheriff Alexander Ruhe was on patrol in the Town of Southeast on February 15, 2008 at 4am when he was dispatched to a report of a onecar property damage auto accident on Sodom Road. Upon arrival, the deputy determined that the driver, Benjamin R. Wolken, 29, of Pawling, had left the scene of the accident. The deputy further determined that at the time of the accident, Mr. Wolken had been driving with a suspended license. At approximately 6am that date, Mr. Wolken turned himself in at the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. The defendant was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, a misdemeanor. He was released in his own recognizance pending a March 11, 2008 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendants could face up to one year in jail and fines of up to $1,000.
