February 23 was Proclaimed "Rotary Day" Throughout Putnam

By proclamation of the Putnam County Executive and the Putnam County Legislature, February 23 was declared as "Rotary Day" in Putnam County. All Putnam residents were encouraged to recognize Rotary International for its more than 100 years of service to improving human conditions in local communities in the County, the United States and around the world.

Rotary International was founded on February 23, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois and is one of the first and largest non-profit service organizations with over 1.2 million members worldwide comprised of professional and business leaders in over 32,000 clubs in 200 countries.

Locally, active Rotary Clubs in Brewster, Carmel, Mahopac, Patterson and Putnam Valley support their communities through donations to local civic and charitable organizations; provide scholarships for local graduates; host international exchange students and professional group study participants and participate in supporting a myriad of community activities.

Internationally, Rotary funds medical supplies, health care, clean water, food production, job training and education to millions in need around the world. Rotary helped launch the Polio Plus program in 1985 with the goal of eradicating polio around the world by working with various international organizations to immunize the children of the world, effectively dropping cases by 99% since 1988.

Rotary is always looking for new members. If you're interested and would like more information, please contact Michelle

Powers, 845-878-3480, ext. 109), who would be happy to direct you to the right contact person for your particular area.
