Putnam Valley On the Right Track
To the Editor:

It is nice to see open government return to Putnam Valley after 2 years of possibly the most dysfunctional government Putnam Valley has seen in recent memory.

The bipartisan town board, 2 Republicans, 2 Democrats and 1 Independence party member seems to be a formula that can work in bringing Putnam Valley back to respectability.

The leadership of Robert Tendy, and the energy and focus he has put into his new role as Supervisor, has opened up the doors to communication and civility. Town Hall no longer is off limits to most residents except for a select few as it was under the old administration, but instead is a welcome place where without an appointment you might be sitting down with the Supervisor to discuss an issue that concerns you.

Recently there have been some letters and comments at meetings and in the papers regarding the dissolution of Master Plan Committee (MPC) and finger pointing at Mr. Tendy regarding this.

As a past Chairperson of that committee, please allow me to comment. The purpose of the MPC is to draft a Comprehensive Master Plan, which serves as a vision for the town and provides guidance to the Town Board as it drafts zoning and other laws. Once the MPC has had the plan approved, as was done in 2007, they no longer have a role. They have no power to enforce the plan, draft laws, or do anything other than what they previously accomplished, which was have the plan approved. Their existence is not mandated by law, or required by code.

When Mr. Tendy acknowledged the committee for their hard work which was completed, the dissolution of the MPC was proper. It's time to put that issue to rest and let the board continue to do the good work that they were elected to do.
