George Shawe Memorial Visual Arts Scholarship Offered by Putnam Arts Council
The George Shawe Memorial Visual Arts Scholarship is offered in memory of George Shawe, a former Arts Council Trustee and a co-founder of a permanent art collection at the Putnam Hospital Center. This $500 scholarship is awarded each year, to a graduating high school senior within Putnam County, who plans to pursue the arts either by majoring in art in college, or by working in the arts.
Applications for the 2008 Shawe Scholarship are now available and may be downloaded from the PAC website: putnamartscouncil.com or from PAC by calling 278-0230. This scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of George Shawe, a former Arts Council Trustee and a co-founder of a permanent art collection at the Putnam Hospital Center. It is a $500 award to a graduating high school senior within Putnam County, who plans to pursue the arts either by majoring in art in college, or by working in the arts.
The selection process will be done by an independent panel in May of this year, based on the application, a teacher recommendation, and a portfolio review. The recipient will be announced in June; if the panel selects a runner-up that student will receive $250.
The Putnam Arts Council is pleased to continue this Scholarship program in honor of Mr. Shawe and a full list of Awardees can be found on our website, which provides a comprehensive guide to all our programs, services and events, as well as cultural links throughout Putnam County.
