Assemblywoman Sandy Galef to Host Series of TV Shows on Property Taxes and How Schools are Funded
Experts offering a wide range of perspectives on the current property tax crisis facing Westchester and Putnam County residents will appear on cable TV shows hosted by Assemblywoman Sandy Galef throughout March and April.
John Whiteley, spokesman for the Tri-County Committee for Property Tax Relief, will kick off the series discussing a variety of options he thinks would be good solutions to escalating property taxes. Following that, Al DelBello, Chairman of the Westchester County Association gives a business perspective on how rising property taxes impact the economy and the county. Robert Elliott, Deputy Secretary of State for Local Governments discusses how school districts and municipalities can share services to cut overhead and increase efficiencies.
As Chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Real Property Taxation, Galef sees this series as another opportunity to help inform her constituents about the intricacies of overhauling the current property tax system and to look deeply into potential solutions. "I think it is crucial that we do not just jump at the first idea that looks good, but rather carefully examine how a change will impact all aspects of taxation, from homeowners, to businesses, to farmers and renters. Our children's education hangs in the balance, and that really is the future of our state," remarks Galef.
