Haldane Student Jordan Kenna Travels to Nicaragua to Make a Difference
On March 23, Jordan Kenna, a senior at Haldane HS, will travel with a group of high school students from Westchester and Putnam counties to the small village of Ticuantepe, Nicaragua where they will build homes for families currently living in plastic shacks.
The trip is sponsored by Bridges to Community, a nonprofit organization that brings volunteers to work alongside local communities on projects such as house construction, sustainable farming practices and medical clinic work. The volunteers will live in the village where the house is being built, working alongside future homeowners who will take an active role in the building of their new home.
Jordan is now in the process of fundraising in order to offset the cost of the program. "I am so excited about traveling to Nicaragua and believe this trip will have a lasting impact on my future. I hope to grow from this experience and in the process learn more about the culture of Nicaragua to help address the poverty there. I am grateful for the chance to make a difference."
Bridges to Community operates from the conviction that people can renew and deepen their sense of responsibility for all of life and thus become better informed and more proactive in their efforts to build a world that takes seriously the rights and needs of everyone.
