Little Stony Point Citizens' Association Hosts Maple Syrup Day
Did you know that it takes 40 gallons of sap from the Sugar Maple tree to make just one gallon of maple syrup? Did you know that syrup makers often wait until male Red-winged Blackbirds return to the area before they begin tapping trees?
If you're interested in the syrup-making process, or if you just want a taste of this sweet gift from nature, then join the Little Stony Point Citizens Association as they host their annual "Maple Syrup Day" program on Sunday, March 9 from 10am till 1pm. (Foul weather will cancel).
There will be "do-it-yourself" information for syrup enthusiasts, as well as tree tapping demonstrations and, of course, they'll be boiling down sap for the duration. Bring your friends and family, enjoy pancakes with a sample of Little Stony Points own homemade maple syrup, and take part in this yearly rite of coming spring.
"Maple Syrup Day" will take place at the Little Stony Point caretakers house, 3011 Route 9D, ½ mile north of Route 301 in Cold Spring.
Little Stony Point is a stateowned recreational resource, operated through a cooperative agreement between the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Little Stony Point Citizens' Association.
