Good Grief Ed!
To the Editor:

Good Grief Ed! (Putnam Valley supervisor's first 45 Days).

You know enough to write a balanced story, so why not try it. I've seen you at the Town Board meetings, and enough of us have lengthy conversations with you. You have the information. Now we need some journalism.

Regarding Mr. Tendy, he came into his reorganization meeting and immediately shut down public comment. He added a surprise agenda item without following protocol. He decided to dissolve the Comprehensive Plan committee. At later meetings, when he finally allowed the public to comment, he ignored them. His excuse on the CP committee was faulty

The job is done. Not so! There's the Oregon Corners commercial plan and the open space plan, both mentioned in the Comprehensive Plan document. It's fiscally irresponsible, he says. Not so! The cost to finish the job was already budgeted, and he is paying the planner anyway, although with much less public transparency.

The only advantage to this maneuver is that public input is eliminated. Mr. Tendy took over the whole process. That is not an advantage to the public.

The Comprehensive Plan committee that has been in existence for the last 2 years was the most effective citizen committee that we have had in recent years. Eliminating them was not open government, moving forward, or including everyone in the process. It was politics at its worst, and it damages our community.

Please, a bit more reality and fairness in your reporting.
