Beacon Teen Held in Lake Peekskill Stabbing
An 18-year-old Beacon youth was arrested last week on felony assault charges stemming from a reported stabbing which occurred in the Lake Peekskill area of Putnam Valley.
According to the Sheriff, at about 5pm on Saturday, March 2, 2008, the Putnam County Sheriffs Office received a 9-1- 1 call reporting a stabbing near Lake and Morrisey Drives. Deputies Thomas DesJardins, Claire Pierson, Matthew Monroe and Sergeant John Alfano responded to the scene to conduct the initial investigation. Upon their arrival, they found Wayne F. Given, 20 years of age, of Putnam Valley suffering from multiple knife wounds to his stomach, side, arm and back. Mr. Given was transported to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla by members of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where he was admitted and underwent emergency surgery.
After securing the crime scene, deputies referred the matter to Investigators Stephen Tricinelli and James Bambino of the Sheriffs Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Their investigation revealed that 18-yearold Daniel J. Adorno of Beacon was sitting outside a deli when he was approached by Mr. Given. Mr. Given reportedly went up to Mr. Adorno and engaged in a dispute over a purported outstanding fiftydollar debt. The verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation ending in Mr. Given being repeatedly stabbed by Mr. Adorno with a four-inch folding knife. Mr. Adorno then fled from the scene prior to arrival of emergency service providers.
At about 7pm Mr. Adorno's mother contacted authorities by telephone and arranged for her son's surrender to investigators at the Sheriff's Putnam Valley Substation.
After consulting with the Putnam County District Attorney's Office, Mr. Adorno was arrested and charged with Assault in the First Degree, a class "B" felony. He was arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann, on behalf of the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court, and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.
A conviction of Assault in the First Degree may result in a sentence of imprisonment imposed by the court of up to twenty-five years in a New York State correctional facility.
