Not a Racial Slur Dear Editor:
In response to last week's letter from Margaret Vetare criticizing the Editor and staff of this fine publication for printing "racial slurs" in my letter from the week before, I believe Mrs. Vetare needs to do her homework and get her facts straight before she runs off at the mouth.
In my letter to the Editor two weeks ago, I referred to the 9/ 11 terrorists that are soon to be "exterminated" as "sand rats". Mrs. Vetare seems to believe that this is a racial slur. In fact, she has her information backwards and here is why. The term "sand rat" was given to the Alqueda terrorists hiding in the caves in Afghanistan because that's what rats do, they hide in holes in the dirt. The racial slur that Mrs. Vetare is apparently thinking of is the word "sand" followed by probably the most hated word in the English language, the "N" word. That is the racial slur that is horribly used too often when referring to people of Middle Eastern descent.
My advice to Mrs. Vetare is to get her facts straight, do her homework and not run her mouth off about something she knows nothing about.
