More than 500 Visit BOCES Tech Center's Open House in Yorktown
The Tech Center at Yorktown was open for "new business" recently during its annual Open House, when prospective students and their parents visit the more than 30 career and technical programs offered to high school juniors and seniors.
Dropping in on classes from Fashion Design and Merchandising to Environmental Science to Carpentry to Autobody, high school sophomores, their parents, and siblings peppered teachers with questions about the programs, the curriculum, the work load, and the logistics of attending The Tech Center and taking classes at their home school.
Current Tech Center students were on hand to talk about their own experiences with the programs, providing probably the most valuable information for the more than 500 visitors. "was most impressed by our students who attended the Open House," says Tech Center Director and Putnam/Northern Westchester Deputy Superintendent Renee Gargano. "They were very professional and wonder representatives of our programs."
Tech Center Principal Cathy Balestrieri described the evening as "the most successful Open House in recent memory - the all-out marketing and recruitment paid off and the Tech Center staff and student volunteers welcomed the opportunity to showcase their programs."
