Disaster Mental Health Keynote Speak Subject at MHA Dutchess County Annual Meeting Luncheon
Mental Health America of Dutchess County (formerly Mental Health Association in Dutchess County) will hold its 54th Annual Meeting Luncheon on Friday, May 9, 2008 from 11:30am-2pm at the Grand Hotel, Poughkeepsie.
James Halpern, Ph.D., Institute for Disaster Mental Health Director and Professor of Psychology at SUNY New Paltz, will be the keynote speaker. The title of his presentation is, "Disaster Mental Health." Dr. Halpern's training includes: Mental Health Services, Mass Care, Health Care, Family Services, Weapons of Mass Destruction/ Terrorism. He has had significant experience providing mental health services at many types of disasters. He has coauthored, Disaster Mental Health: Theory and Practice, an informative textbook which covers the psychology of disasters and discusses how to assist those impacted by such dramatic, life-changing events.
