June M. Foss
June M. Foss died in the wee hours of March 17, 2008 at the Northern Westchester Rehabilitation Clinic. She died of liver failure.
June was born on February 4, 1938 and grew up in a suburb of Pittsburgh. Her father, C.H. McGee, was one of the first radio announcers in the country, and later worked as an executive with Gulf Oil for forty years. He also sang opera locally.
As a teen-ager, June displayed precocious talent as a pianist, and gave numerous recitals in and around Pittsburgh. However, she disliked performing, and after high school, chose to attend Carnegie-Mellon University to study art, with the goal of becoming a commercial artist.
In her senior year, June dropped out of school to marry Philip Hubbard, Jr. They moved to Boston, where he attended Harvard Business School, and she worked in the law school as a secretary to Charles Fried, later Solicitor General of the United States. They had a son, who they named Philip M. Hubbard III.
After a few years, June and Mr. Hubbard divorced, and June and her young son moved to Florida, where June worked as a secretary and research assistant for NASA during the time of the Apollo moon missions. At one point, she was voted by her colleagues 'Miss Cape Canaveral.'
Later, the two moved to New Jersey where June, over the years, worked as a secretary and office manager for several large firms, mostly in the technology field.
Meanwhile, her son inherited her love of music and went on to study at the Berklee School of Music, then graduated from Columbia University.
In 1984, June met Franklin Foss, and in 1989 they moved to Cold Spring where, shortly afterward, they were married in the chapel by the river. June instantly loved Cold Spring, and cared for it more as the years went on.
June is survived by her husband and son - as well as numerous friends and admirers.
