Stephanie Doherty Templeton

Stephanie Doherty Templeton was born in Chicago, IL, on October 19, 1924 and died March 13, 2008. Stephanie was the daughter of the late Edna MacDonald and Captain Stephen Doherty (USN). She is survived by her husband, George Templeton, daughters, Laura Cattuti and Diane Templeton, a son, Gregg Templeton, three granddaughters, and two great grandchildren.

She lived in many different places growing up due in part that her father was serving in the USN at the rank of Commander in the US Navy. Her early years were spent at Pearl Harbor, HI, Brooklyn, NY, Pennsylvania and Cape May, NJ. Her adult years were in Peekskill, Garrison, and finally in Hertford, NC.

A graduate of Stevens College for women, Columbia, MO, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and associated with Bloomingdale's of NYC. She was a principal partner in The Golden Eagle B&B which later became an office complex in Garrison. She was the founding secretary of the Harbor Sailing Club of Cape May, NJ, which late became the Corinthian Yacht Club. An active sailor herself, she won numerous regattas in Lightning day sailors.

A dedicated Girl Scout Leader, she also loved the outdoors and the Adirondack Mountains of NY State. She was Past President of the Peekskill Garden Club and a member of the Philipstown Garden Club. She was a consistent winner of blue ribbon awards for her flower designs. An avid gardener, she was active in her garden until just recently. She was a very special woman who was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends far and wide. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Friends of Eagle Island, G.S.C.G.E.H.C. 120 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ 07042.

A memorial reception will be held at her residence, 102 Ashley Circle (Albemarle Plantation), Hertford, NC on Saturday, March 29, 2008 between hours of 1 and 3pm. Twiford Funeral Homes, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, is assisting the Templeton family. To sign the online register, visit www.twifordfh.com.
