Women's Work Wins Chamber Innovation in Business Award Matthew Pergamo earns Baumgarten Scholarship

| Cecelia Dinio-Durkin, owner of Women's Work in Cold Spring, was surprised by and honored with the Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Innovation in Business Award at the Annual Awards Dinner held on March 20, 2008 at the Dutchess Manor in Beacon, NY. The winner of the award, given to a business or organization that has positively impacted the immediate community and Hudson Valley Region with job creation, business growth, new initiatives and sustainability, was chosen through an anonymous vote by Chamber and community members.
Dinio-Durkin has brought the issue of Fair Trade to the forefront with her shop that sells handmade

bw.jpg that the women have a way of earning an income. Dinio-Durkin, who lived in Botswana with her
family for two years before returning to Cold Spring, educates others on Fair Trade through workshops offered at area libraries and schools. Women's Work has recently moved into a larger storefront at 66 Main Street in Cold Spring. The other nominees for the award were Hudson Highlands Land Trust, River Architects, Harold Lyons & Sons and Hudson Valley Outfitters.
During the well-attended Awards Dinner, which was emceed by Putnam County Legislator Vinny Tamagna and Chamber president Cathryn Fadde, Claudio Marzollo was presented with the Katie O'Donnell Award of Excellence for his dedicated work with the Philipstown Recreation Department and Philipstown Depot Theatre, helping both organizations to grow and offer programming and events to everyone in the Philipstown community.
The Chamber's Service Awards were presented to Michelle Tomlins for her years of service to the Chamber and for her hard work on the Board of Directors and dedication to the Annual Harvest Festival and to Marshall Mermell, for his contributions to the Chamber during his years on the Board of Directors. Mermell's award was accepted on his behalf by his partner at MKTWorks, Marc Sabin. Mermell was not in attendance due to a death in the family.
Matthew Pergamo accepted the Philip Baumgarten Memorial Scholarship from Esther Baumgarten, widow of Philip. The scholarship, in the amount of $750 is named for the former Chamber president and owner of the Hudson Peddler, formerly in Cold Spring.
A 50/50 raffle was held to benefit the scholarship fund and it raised $600 during the evening. Katie Giachinta DeMarco of Mid-Hudson Concrete won the raffle and donated the money back to the Chamber for the scholarship.
