Monica Bendernagle
The United States Military Academy Concert Band will perform at the Sugarloaf Lycian Centre on Saturday, April 12 at 7:30pm. The concert, conducted by deputy commander Captain Treg Ancelet, will feature a program of concert marches, light classical works and the talents of the U.S. Military Academy Band Youth Solo Competition winners. The U.S. Military Academy Concert Band will perform Richard Strauss' Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks; John Philip Sousa's The Circumnavigator's Club March; and soundtrack music from The Rocketeer by James Horner. This concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are going fast. Contact the Lycian Centre Box Office at 845-469-2287 to get your free tickets.

Additionally, the band will feature the talents of two local area high school students. Ms. Monica Bendernagle, currently a sophomore at Arlington High School, has distinguished herself as a fine musician, performing with a number of local orchestras and chamber ensembles. Ms. Bendernagle will present Carl Maria von Weber's Concertino in C Major on oboe and Georges Bizet's Carmen Fantaisie on flute.

Scholar-musician Ms. Melissa Sakow, a senior at Newburgh Free Academy, has also distinguished herself by performing in a number of local and regional honor ensembles as both flutist and vocalist. The Academy Band will feature Ms. Sakow on Charles T. Griffes' Poem.
