Beacon Waterfront is Home to Earth Day Festival

The Beacon Sloop Club and Hudson River Sloop Clearwater invite the public to the annual Earth Day Festival on April 20, 2008, from noon to dusk, across from the Metro Station in Beacon, at the Beacon Harbor. Admission is free. This event will feature home grown music, many displays of earth friendly technology (geothermal, solar, wind, recycling, composting, bio-diesel, hybrid and electric cars from local dealers), display tanks and hands on exhibits of river fish and other life forms, and a children's area with games, stories and music to delight the little ones. Music performers will include Linda Richards, Pete Seeger, Dan Einbender, Vicki Rabin, Ingrid Heldt, Lydia Adams Davis, Vinnie & Mary Ellen and the group "Something to Say Cafe". At 4pm there will be a paid sail on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater; however, there will be free deck tours of the Clearwater throughout the festival. For information and reservations on the Clearwater sails call 845-454-7673 or www.clearwater.org.

The Beacon Farmers Market along with many other food and craft vendors will provide lots of great choices for eating and shopping. For information on being a food or craft vendor call Jane at (914) 271-0057. For Earth Day Festival information call 845-542-0721, 917-495- 7778, or 845 496-5617, or www.beaconsloopclub.org

The Beacon Sloop Club is an all-volunteer and non-profit organization. The BSC Earth Day Festival raises money for the free public sailing program on the Woody Guthrie and other environmental education programs. There is never a charge for sailing aboard the Woody. The BSC meets the first Friday of each month at the clubhouse in Beacon, across the Metro-North train station, for a potluck dinner, business meeting and music. The public is always welcome. Info: (845) 845 496-5617 or www.beaconsloopclub.org
