Patterson Rotary Club to Honor Kevin Bailey at Annual "Men Who Cook" Celebration

Great food from some of the best chefs throughout Putnam County and the Hudson Valley will be just part of the fun as the Patterson Rotary Club hosts Men Who Cook on Saturday, April 26, 2008.

The event raises funds for Patterson Rotary, which is celebrating its twentieth year of supporting community organizations in Putnam County. In recognition of the anniversary, the group will be honoring Kevin Bailey for his lifetime of work helping people.

Mr. Bailey, a founding member of the Patterson club, is a Comcast Cable Corporation executive. He is president of the Putnam County Economic Development Corporation-Industrial Development Agency, which helps attract new businesses and broadens the County's tax base.

Along with his many responsibilities for Comcast and the EDC, Mr. Bailey has for many years produced cable-thons to raise funds for PARC and the Women's Resource Center. He is also a Director on the Mahopac Rotary Board and the Putnam Hospital Center Board, is a past president of the Rotary Club of Patterson, and both the Brewster and Mahopac Chambers of Commerce. He has served on the Boards of the United Way of Putnam County and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County.

Mr. Bailey was the Grand Marshal of the Mahopac St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the only non-Italian Deputy Grand Marshal of the Mahopac Columbus Day Parade.

The "Men Who Cook" evening begins with a selection of appetizers, entree specialties, salads and side dishes - and if guests have room for dessert, there will be a groaning board of pies, cakes, cookies and ice cream. The food is only one part of the fun. Area businesses and individuals have donated prizes for the evening's auction, including theater, sports and concert tickets, art works, basket collections, home electronics and more.

Among the groups that receive support are the Putnam Womens' Resource Center; the Putnam Humane Society; Friends of the Great Swamp; Patterson/Pawling Presbyterian Food Pantry; the ARCS Food Pantry; Putnam Community Action Program (school supplies, toys for teens, etc.); and Green Chimney's Children's Services (book bags, socks, tee shirts, etc.). A special effort for the group is providing complete dinners, from appetizers to desserts, for Camp Sundown, a camp for children with XP [Xeroderma Pigmentosum], a genetic disease which makes it impossible for them to go out in the sun.

Men Who Cook will be held Saturday, April 26, at 6:30pm, at the Starr Ridge Banquet Hall, 38 Starr Ridge Road in Brewster. Tickets are $50 per person. For more invitation and details on how to reserve seats for the dinner, go to www.pattersonrotary.org, or email pattersonrotary@aol.com. The invitation can be downloaded and mailed with a check to Patterson Rotary, P.O. Box 24, Patterson, NY 12563.

Walk-ins the day of the event are welcome, but the event fills up early and to guarantee a seat, reservations are recommended.
