Draft Horses Field Day at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center
The Hudson Valley Draft Horse Association and the Stony Kill Foundation invite the public to Draft Horse Field Day at Stony Kill on Sunday April 27. The event will begin at 10am and end at 3pm with demonstrations and activities throughout the day. A grand parade of horse drawn equipment will take place at 2pm. Demonstrations will be held in the Center's pastures. There will be draft horse riding demonstrations, horse drawn plowing demonstrations, harnessing, harrowing, planting and log skidding competition. Horse drawn wagon rides will be available as well as children's activities. The Environmental Education Center barn will be open for viewing of the farm's chickens, cows, pigs, sheep and turkeys. There will be a food concession booth and the Stony Kill Foundation will have a gift shop booth open for the public.
This is the Draft Horse Association's 27 such Field Day returning to the New York State Department of Environmental Education Center at Stony Kill for the third consecutive year. The Draft Horse Association is a group of people who own or are interested in draft horses. The association looks to educate people in the traditions of farming using draft horses and other farm animals including mules and oxen.
The event is a fundraiser for both the Draft Horse Association and the Stony Kill Foundation which is the not for profit volunteer organization that supports many of the programs at the Environmental Education Center.
Stony Kill is located off Rt. 9D Wappingers Falls, just two miles north of I-84. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled. For information call (845) 831- 8780 ext. 300.
