A Concert for a Cause To the Editor:
On April 11th, I'm doing a concert in the Haldane auditorium, along with the Veltz Family and the Cold Spring Music Collective, to raise money for a geothermal engineering study that will help us determine the most cost efficient way to heat the Haldane elementary and middle schools.
We have a rare opportunity to make this choice, because our present oil-fired system needs to be replaced.
Whatever system we choose will be in place for about the next thirty years, and with oil hitting $110 a barrel, we think that geothermal could be the most cost effective, as well as the most environmentally friendly, way to go. A study will give us the information we need.
So, while an engineering study might not seem like the most glamorous cause, it is, in fact, a very cool thing to be raising money for, and it should be a fun night, as well!
Kim Conner and friends have set up a great website at www.haldane-geo.org with concert details, a video that explains how geothermal works (basically by extracting and returning heat from the ground), and our involvement with getting a study done.
There is also information about how to pledge support, which would be very well appreciated.
See you in April!
