| On March 8, 2008, local AARP Chapter 41183 held a fun-fest of Irish songs as well as an Irish story, led by local talented singer Arline Hay- O'Brien, and Story-teller Jim McGuire. Jim's poignant Irish tale was touching, and in keeping with the season. As they were leaving, attendees agreed that the singing lifted all hearts and made the occasion very special. Also, Refreshment Committee Chair Christine Coffin entertained beautifully with a lilting solo.
This program was a change from the usual speakers who edify and often teach our local AARP seniors at the monthly meetings. During this past year, this chapter has had such speakers as John Katzenstein, from the State Consumer Fraud Protection Bureau and Bill Heustis, Director of the Putnam County Office for Aging. In February, Don Konen, Trustee of the Patterson Historical Society and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Danbury Railway Museum spoke.
The April meeting of AARP Chapter #1183 will be a fundraiser with a Silent Auction of "regifts", knick-knacks, collections and treasures that are ready to be passed on to others, and home-made goodies that are "fit for a king". This will be a funtime, and we all expect the bargains to be plentiful. All Senior Citizens are invited as well as their guests. You don't have to be a member of AARP or this chapter, but you may decide to join once you meet this friendly, welcoming group. Come to the Silent Auction on Saturday, April 12, at 1:30pm at Guideposts in Carmel. Any questions? Call 845-277-3149.
