Yoga Class Series Begins at Desmond Fish Library

Beginning Friday April 4, Meredith Laubin, a long-time yoga practitioner, and Yee Yoga Institute certified instructor, will offer a series of 10 weeks of classes in Hatha Yoga in the spacious program room of the Desmond-Fish Library located at the junction of Rts 9D and 403, in Garrison. The classes are open to adults over 18. Classes will continue through June 6 every Friday morning. Hatha [hot-tah'] yoga is an ancient Indian healing program that gives you improved alignment and range of motion, increased strength, balance and muscle-control. Breath control and increased oxygen intake are a central part of every session. This adds up to exercise that's fun, relieves stress, provides endless challenge - and complements many sport activities. Ms. Laubin will also offer classes in Meditation and Pranayama - a form of breath control that anyone can learn and practice. Gradually breathing becomes deeper, capacity increases and oxygen utilization is improved. Both classes are excellent for stress management, and lead to increased circulation to organs. This will be followed by a practice of quiet sitting and walking, with breath focus.

Ms. Laubin's personal practice of yoga began about 40 years ago and has been developed in a disciplined way since 1996. Her training was led by Richard Rosen, senior editor of Yoga Journal, and Rodney Yee, well-known teacher and creator of training videos. Meditation is part of her daily practice. Her training is from the Chuang Yen Monastery, located on Route 301 in Kent, NY.

The fee is $110 for ten 75- minute sessions and a portion of the fee is to be donated to the Desmond Fish Library General Fund. Please call the Library at 424-3020 or email Meredith Laubin at youcanyoga@yahoo.com for further information.
