Celiac Support Group Meets Monthly
The monthly meeting of the Hudson Valley Celiac Support Group meets in Conference Room B at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, on the third Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30pm. Meetings are informational for those who have Celiac Disease (gluten intolerance) or other wheat allergies, and include medical professionals as speakers, gluten free food samples, and sharing of tips and advice on eating gluten free. April's meeting will feature Sloane Miller, speaker, consultant, social worker- food-allergic and gluten-intolerant herself- who will be exploring lifestyle issues and coping strategies. She will teach the group members how to assert their dietary needs in any situation, communicate positively and assertively with family and friends about celiac, dine out successfully, and use blogs and journals to increase confidence. Sloane Miller, writing as "Allergic Girl," has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and other newspapers and magazines of note. Sloane is an allergy and asthma expert for www.HealthCentral.com where she writes a popular twice-weekly lifestyle blog.
