Price of Admission to The Music Man the Best $8 Ever Spent To The Editor:
On April 6 I spent the best $8 I've ever spent; I went to Haldane's production of The Music Man. There are not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to adequately describe this show. The music was just great - from the accompanying musicians to the performers. I could have listened to the barber shop quartet all day (I've been humming Lida Rose for a week) and Jeff Rizzi as the Music Man and Laura Bach as Marian were spellbinding. The entire cast was amazing. They all seemed at ease with their roles and they delivered their lines with heart and enthusiasm from the train scene in the beginning to the final rendition of Seventy-Six Trombones.
If I sound over-the-top, I'm not going to apologize. Meredith Nocton, Haldane's music teacher and the play's director; Martha Mechalakos, the music director; Faye Rice, the assistant director and Doreen Ferris, costume and set designer are all to be congratulated for an outstanding job.
We're going to miss all of the seniors, who as I've already said, were stupendous in their musical and acting abilities. The consolation we have is that we can look forward to future performances from the younger cast members including Laura Bach and Erin Percacciolo. Hats off to all of you for a tremendous couple of hours of entertainment. My advice to the community is to support the wonderful talent we have at Haldane and attend the plays - I guarantee that you won't be sorry.
