2nd Annual Putnam County Secret Garden Tour Set for Saturday, June 16, 2008
Private gardens still needed for tour, which benefits PARC

Putnam ARC, the leading provider of services for people with disabilities in Putnam County, will hosts its 2nd Annual Putnam County Secret Garden Tour and gardens are still needed for this fundraising event.

The day-long event, set for Saturday, June 14, 2008, is a self-guided driving tour to the best and most beautiful private gardens in Putnam County, New York.

This country driving tour will bring visitors to private homes with formal gardens, perennial flowering landscapes, pastoral fields and vistas, gorgeous roses, water gardens, and herb and flowering vegetable gardens throughout Putnam County. Once visitors arrive at the garden destinations, homeowners will guide attendees through their landscapes, telling the history of the gardens and answering questions about plantings and designs.

"PARC has been very successful over the past four years hosting a holiday house tour fundraiser in Cold Spring to benefit our agency," said Rand Bridget Otten, PARC's director of development. "From the success of the house tour, we thought it would be a great next step to host a spring event that allows people to fully enjoy the beauty of Putnam County while helping PARC raise needed funds to support programs for people with disabilities."

The 2007 Secret Garden Tour was a wonderful success with a total of 12 open gardens and funds raised for PARC totaling more than $8,000.

The current roster includes seven gardens in Kent, Brewster, Garrison and Cold Spring. A total of 12 gardens will be featured on this year's tour. Homeowners will be assisted by PARC volunteers on the day of the tour and will also be entered to win "Best Garden on the Tour," for a chance at gift certificates to Putnam County garden centers.

For more information and to be considered for the tour, please call Rand Bridget Otten, director of development, at 845- 278-PARC, ext. 287 or at rand_otten@putnamarc.org
