Hudson Highlands Nature Museum Announces Season Opening of Discovery Quest Trails Outdoor adventures for hikers of all ages and abilities
Attention nature Lovers - It's time to dust off your hiking boots and get ready to explore. On Saturday, May 3, Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will celebrate the 2008 season opening of its Discovery Quest trails. Fun for all ages and experience levels, the Quests are a unique, interactive way for people to spend time outdoors to learn about nature and trail lore.
Launched last June, the Discovery Quests are four different hiking adventures that can turn a day outdoors into a unique and memorable nature experience. The Quests, which are located at the Museum's Outdoor Discovery Center on Route 9W, Cornwall, challenge hikers to make twelve different nature discoveries on each trail. Using a guidebook tailored for each trail, available for a nominal fee, hikers explore the Hudson Highlands and make discoveries through a series of riddles, field notes, illustrations, and hands-on challenges.
Quest hikes range from an easy, stroller-friendly trail to a more vigorous hike of nearly two miles - and all trails are well-marked. There's something for hikers of all abilities. The trails also cover a variety of habitats, from wetlands to meadows to forest, and provide wonderful opportunities to observe wildlife. Plus, there's a great picnic area to make a full day out of the adventure.
The Museum's Discovery Quests are a low-cost, highimpact opportunity for families, and anyone who enjoys being outdoors, to spend quality time discovering nature. Admission to the Quest trails is free for Museum members. Non-members can purchase a Museum Day Pass, which includes admission to the Quest trails, for just $3 per person for ages five and up. Quest Guidebooks, which can easily be shared, are available for only $5. In today's economy, where else can a family of four enjoy hours of entertainment for no more than $17?
In today's fast-paced world full of television, computers, videogames, and multi-tasking, it's important for people from all walks of life to take time out to enjoy a nature break. Discovery Quest trails are open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm from May 3 through October 26 at the Museum's Outdoor Discovery Center. Try just one, and you'll soon be back to complete all four. To learn more about Discovery Quests and other Museum programs, visit www.hhnaturemuseum.org.
