Putnam Valley Man Charged With Violating Court Order

Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a man for violating an order of protection in Putnam Valley.

Deputy Sheriff Nicholas Piqueras was on patrol in the Town of Putnam Valley on April 08, 2008 at 1:30am when he was dispatched to a report of a violation of an order of protection in the Lake Peekskill section of the town. Upon arrival, the deputy was informed by a female subject that her husband had telephoned her residence several times in violation of an order of protection she holds against him. When the deputy interviewed the man, Scott Staten, age and address unavailable, he admitted to the deputy that he knowingly violated the court order.

The deputy arrested Mr. Staten and charged him with Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford, The defendant is scheduled to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court at a later date to answer the charge.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
