Step Up and Join the Movement for the 2008 Walk MS in Putnam County
Spring is in the air and that means it's time to lace up your sneakers and join the movement at the 2008 Walk MS in Carmel sponsored by Sayegh Law. Walkers and volunteers from all over Putnam County will gather at the Carmel Fire Department on Sunday May 18 at 9am to join the movement to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, the number one neurological disease leading to disability in young adults.
Walk MS offers a day of fun, entertainment and exercise for the entire family while providing a huge source of support for the work of the National MS Society, Southern New York Chapter. The 2008 Walk MS in Carmel begins at 9am on Sunday, May 18. (All participants over the age of 12 are encouraged to raise a minimum of $25. Prizes will be awarded to walkers turning in pledges of $100 or more.) For information and to register call Michele Hennessy (914) 694- 1655 X 32 or email michele.hennessy@nyv.nmss.org or visit the website:www.wewalk4ms.org.
Walk MS in Carmel is sponsored by Sayegh Law and covers a fully accessible scenic 3 or 6 mile route that begins at the Carmel Fire Department and follows trails around Lake Gleneida. Media sponsor WPDH will be on site to cheer the walkers who will return to the Fire Department for lunch. Additional sponsors include TD Banknorth, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and T-Kar Smart Energy Systems.
In 2007 more than 200,000 participants & volunteers at 58 MS Chapters throughout the country raised over $50 million through the Walks to help the National MS Society continue critical research funding and to help Chapters support clients and families affected by MS.
MS, which affects over 400,000 Americans, is an autoimmune disease that attacks the myelin tissue of the brain and/ or central nervous system. It has no known cause or cure and it is twice as common in women as in men.
By joining the movement and participating in the 2008 Walk MS or by sponsoring a walk team, participants will be joining a powerful movement to find a cure and support the vital services provided by the Southern New York Chapter of the National MS Society.
