Franciscan Friars of the Atonement to Inaugurate National Wildflower Week Seeds to be blessed and planted at Graymoor on Sunday
The Franciscan Friars of the Atonement will inaugurate National Wildflower Week on Sunday, May 4 by blessing and planting wildflower seeds immediately after the 11am Mass in Pilgrim Hall. In addition, packets of seeds will be distributed for planting at home along with a blessing prayer.
Initiated by the Charles Spencer and the Secular Franciscan Order in 1987, National Wildflower Week (May 6-11) is now promoted by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin, TX and designed to "educate people about the environmental necessity, economic value, and natural beauty of native plants." In this spirit, the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement encourage the observation, cultivation, and study of native wildflowers as a means of deepening humankind's relationship and responsibility to creation and the Creator.
