A Real Whodunit Dear Editor:
Friday night, April 25, 2008, the Philipstown Depot Theatre presented Arsenic and Old Lace. When the play was over, the garbage was put out, the theatre was readied for the following night and the cast went home around 11:45pm. Sometime after that, approximately between midnight and 4am someone, or some people decided to put on their own production and proceeded to throw the garbage and whatever they could move over the fence onto the Rail Road tracks.
We, the members of the Board of Directors of the Garrison's Landing Association the members of the Recreation Dept and the Theatre Group try very hard to keep the Landing and the Theatre in good repair and well maintained. On April 17th Monica Mahoney and I along with her Girl Scouts troop cleaned up all the trash at the Landing. They did a terrific job. We picked up 8 large black bags of trash. We all felt we had accomplished something and afterwards the Girl Scouts had a picnic on the lawn overlooking the river enjoying the rest of the afternoon in the sun. A week later the opposite occurs, their identity hidden by darkness. No curtain calls for them.
Fortunately Metro North has a crew that monitors the tracks for debris that could derail a train or cause an accident. They came through early in the morning on Saturday and in order to expedite the removal of the garbage and debris from the tracks they threw it back over the fence, so you can imagine the mess. Amy Dul arrived on Saturday to check on the theatre and the first thing she had to do was clean up the scattered garbage.
It is very disheartening and disappointing to say the least so if there is anyone in the community who has any information about this incident, please email me at osullivan@highlands.coml.
