Trustees Agree to New Numbered Key Policy
Dear Editor:

In a newspaper article last week regarding undeclared gasoline use by Cold Spring's current mayor, Anthony Phillips, the Journal News writes "He has just instituted a specific account for himself…" Actually, he has instituted no policy, as he did not show up for the last meeting (our endof fiscal-year auditor's meeting).

In an attempt to soften an embarrassing situation for the Village and bring Village policy into synch with NYS law, the Trustees agreed, for the time being, to give him his own numbered key in return for the twenty different spares he had been entrusted with. These will now be kept in a lock box requiring at least two different people, each with a different key, to open it. He also must keep a log of his village-related mileage, as would be expected of anyone being reimbursed with funds raised from Village taxpayers.
John Teagle
Village of Cold Spring
Trustee
