Shields Acclaimed by Coaches Association
A career of accolades continued for Brittany Shields at the Section I Coaches Association all-section dinner. The Haldane senior was named the Isabel Costa Award winner, which is given to the best girls basketball player in Section I. Section I encompasses Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties and includes all schools from class AA to class D.
Shields, a five time Section I champion, is the program's all-time leading scorer and is ranked third all time in rebounding in New York State, which includes all public and private schools. She was chosen the New York State Player of the Year in Class C by the New York State Sportswriters Association. She concluded her career with 1945 points and 1364 rebounds.
The evening's guest speaker was 2003 Ursuline graduate Cori Chambers, who now plays for the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA.
