Respect, Honor and Sympathy To the Editor:
My father-in-law, a retired Putnam County Deputy Sheriff recently passed away. In his honor the Sheriff's Department participated during the services with an honor guard. They led the funeral procession and had a 21 gun salute at the cemetery.
My husband is currently a Deputy for the department and has participated in such services. I personally have never experienced it.
They not only showed their professionalism, organization and respect but also a great deal of support. Outside Clinton's Funeral Home, Cold Spring Police officer Terry Comiskey and Kevin O'Rourke stood alongside the Honor Guard, playing the bagpipes. It was overwhelming.
My father-in-law was honored by a great group of men who sacrifice themselves to protect us daily and take personal time to honor those who preceded them. It is something you have to experience in order to fully appreciate it. The family is so appreciative of such a beautiful and moving presentation. He would have been proud.
