Come Out and Support PV Zoning Code at Public Hearing

On Wednesday, May 14 at 7pm, there will be a public hearing on the draft zoning code. The zoning code must conform to the Comprehensive Plan, which was passed in December of 2007. The code was completed and presented to the board on August 23, 2007. After the environmental impact statement and a findings statement were accepted, the Comprehensive Plan was passed.
The Planning Board is charged with the responsibility of enforcing the Comprehensive Plan, but they have been left to do that with an old code that does not conform to the Comprehensive Plan.
The new Zoning Code was the result of work done by our Town planner Jan Johannessen, another planner from Chazen Mike Welti, the Comprehensive Plan committee, and the Town Attorneys with input from the public and the other boards. It is truly a collaborative work. There were two attorneys on the Comprehensive Plan committee, as well as the Town Supervisor, and two members of the Planning Board.
There have been no further public meetings since the Comprehensive Plan committee was dissolved by Robert Tendy. The public hearing was originally scheduled for February 13, 2008, but was cancelled due to inclement weather. This was a long delay for rescheduling. It is my hope that the Comprehensive Plan committee, Mr. Welti, Mr Johannessen, and both attorneys will be present at the hearing for the sake of the public's understanding of the code. Please come out and support the zoning code. It is imperative that it be passed so that we can move forward as a community with our Comprehensive Plan.
