BOCES Hospitality Seniors Head to CIA, Johnson & Wales, and More

Once again this year a record number of the 47 graduating seniors from Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' Hospitality Career Academy have been accepted at the best prominent Culinary Arts colleges: 11 are headed to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY; six are going to Johnson & Wales in Providence, RI; and many others will attend culinary institutions such as Paul Smith College and the Institute of Culinary Education.

The remaining seniors have been accepted into a variety of other excellent schools, including Berkely School of Business, Western Connecticut State University, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

The Hospitality seniors celebrated their accomplishments recently during The Tech Center's Senior Luncheon, where the Hospitality program's juniors served their peers a multi-course luncheon at BOCES' student-run restaurant, The Educated Palate, and where they were formally congratulated by their teachers.

This year the Hospitality seniors and their invitees - teachers and guidance counselors from their home schools - were treated to a luncheon of spicy cheese croquettes, Caesar salad, grilled chicken, penne a la vodka, roasted asparagus, and chocolate fantasy cake.

Senior Chelsea Geyer of Mahopac, who will head off to the Culinary Institute of America in the fall, said she inherited her passion for cooking from her mom. "She equates cooking with love," she said. As for her own future, she says, "I'm a hands-on learner, and after working hard all this time, I know what I want. I can't wait for this next chapter of my life to begin."
