| Local celebrities will lend their drink mixing talents at a special fundraising evening to benefit Haldane's playground. The Guest Bartending Night will be the first of its kind in the area and has been the brainchild of event organizers Danny Bernstein and Michelle Holubar. The festivities will feature local "celebrities", including Elementary School Principal Maggie Davis, County Legislator Vincent Tamagna, Haldane Teachers Katie Lapicki and Mark Wick, Haldane School Foundation member Jennifer Marrinan, former PTA President Debbi Milner, former Haldane Board of Ed President Joe Curto and local talented musician and resident Greg Phillips.
Join and tip these fabulous bartenders as they mix it up for the playground. All tips and a portion of the ticket price will go to support the playground. Tickets cost only $25, which includes appetizers and a cash bar with drink specials. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance: be quick, as only 80 tickets are available! To make for a safe and sound event, Alley's Way Taxi (265- TAXI) will be offering specially discounted rates and will be parked outside Cathryn's, which is located at 91 Main St., Cold Spring, during the event.
While the students at Haldane were enjoying their recent spring break, the Playground Committee was busy seeing their plans finally becoming a reality with a last-minute and much welcomed visit from Senator Vincent L. Leibell, who serves New York State's 40th Senate District. The Senator recently announced a grant of $10,000 towards the playground renovation project. The certified installers removed the outdated equipment swiftly and, on the Monday of the break, began laying out the footings that would support the new play equipment. On Tuesday, the equipment began to take shape and form. Late on Wednesday, the installation was completed and children began to use the equipment immediately!
Installation of a new shade structure, chess tables, additional stand-alone play stations, benches and landscaping has yet to be completed and will be funded in part by this event. Senator Leibell's grant comes at an excellent time, exemplifying what a full community effort can be capable of achieving; hopes are that the Guest Bartending Night, which runs from 7-11pm, will do more of the same.
The Playground Committee co-chairs would like to thank the entire community for their continued support of this project with a special thanks to the Haldane School Foundation for understanding the integral importance that physical activity makes on the academic success of school children and for making the new equipment a reality; Lowe's for their generous donation; Joe Curto for providing much needed guidance, countless support and many gallons of paint; Maggie Davis for giving the committee full creative reign; Wayne Robinson and his staff for their technical advice and expertise; John Shuk and the Verizon Pioneers for the colorful map; Cathryn Fadde for her continued support of the playground and the local community; the Haldane PTA for helping with diverse and often last-minute fundraisers; and the dozens of volunteers that have donated their services, time and money for which this project could not have been undertaken.
