Haldane Baseball Gets a Win but Falls in Beacon Tourney
by Matthew Calandrillo

After the Blue Devils had a big win over Class AA Arlington at Dutchess Stadium, the Blue Devils looked to make it two wins in a row against Class AA Poughkeepsie High School. Matthew Calandrillo took the mound for the Blue Devils and pitched 5 innings and got the win. Senior Billy Campbell had 2 hits. Joe Dullea had the big hit of the game with a 3-run double. With the Blue Devils leading 8-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, the Devils thought they had it in the bag, but Poughkeepsie would make a late 6-run rally. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, Matt Tringali would get the final out, stopping the bleeding and picking up the save. The Devils went on to win 8-7.

On Friday, the Blue Devils participated in the Dawgfest (Beacon) Tournament. They would lose to Beacon on Friday. Saturday was the consolation game, Haldane versus the Spackenkill Spartans. Michael Impellitiere took the mound, going 5 innings. Sophomore Rafael Famighetti had a 2-run home run, putting the Devils up 3-0. Christian Callaghan, along with a hit, gunned down a Spartan running to third base, possibly saving a run. Billy Campbell had a beautiful catch in center field, along with his two hits. Calandrillo also had 2 hits along with a RBI and run scored. The Blue Devils would lose a tough one, 5-4. Sophomore Christian Callaghan would take the honors of Tournament MVP from Haldane.

The Blue devils are now 3-7 and are halfway through the season. The Devils are still aiming for a sectional berth. Haldane's next home game is May 8, against league opponent Pawling Tigers. Go support Blue Devils baseball!
