Putnam County Household Hazardous Waste and Computer/TV/Cell Phone Clean Up Day Scheduled

The Putnam County Department of Health and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are co-sponsoring a free Household Hazardous Waste and Computer/TV/Cell Phone Cleanup Day scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9am to 1pm (rain or shine) at the Putnam County Department of Health, 1 Geneva Road, Brewster.

Putnam County residents will be provided with an opportunity to safely dispose of toxic materials such as: household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, oil (not water-based) paint, automotive solvents, old televisions, computers and cell phones. Disposal items will only be accepted if they are labeled and identifiable.

Items which will not be accepted are water-based paints (latex), tires, propane tanks or any materials from commercial establishments. Household products for cleaning, gardening, maintenance or hobbies are safe when used and stored correctly. Improper storage or disposal of waste poses a health risk to residents and their families. The Cleanup Day provides a way to remove toxic products from homes in an environmentally safe matter.

For a complete list of items that we are accepting, please visit the health department website at www.putnamcountyny.com.

To get to the Cleanup Day take Route 84 to Exit 19. Make a left onto Route 312. Make first left onto International Boulevard, Geneva Road is the second right.

Pre-registration is required. Call early to reserve your spot. Call the Putnam County Health Department at (845) 278-6130 ext. 2150 with questions about the event and how to pre-register.
