Ornithology Presentation Marks the Start of Outdoor RecFest This Sunday at Taconic Center Canoeing, orienteering, guiding eyes demo, high ropes program also part of the program
This Sunday, May 18, at 9am, the Putnam Highlands Audubon Society in cooperation with the Taconic Outdoor Education Center (TOEC) invites the community to "check out a song bird up close and personal" with ornithologist Rich Guthrie.
At the opening act for TOEC's day-long Mountain Laurel Outdoor Recfest, Rich will be netting and banding birds through the early morning. He will explain the importance of this activity for collecting scientific data about bird populations.
Afterward, a bird walk will be offered for those interested in learning more about identifying birds in the field.
Other Recfest activities include building a bluebird box, interpretive canoe paddle, orienteering, high ropes adventures, and a live wildlife program. Food and beverages will also be available from 11:30 until 1:30. The program runs from 9am to 3pm, and a small donation of $2 for adults and $1 for children is appreciated. Please leave your pets at home.
The Taconic Outdoor Education Center is located in Fahnestock State Park along Route 301 and is part of the NYS Parks Taconic Region. For further information, call TOEC at 265-3773.
