Garrison Native Elisabeth Prueitt and Husband Chad Robertson Win James Beard Foundation Awards Named 'Outstanding Pastry Chefs' in ceremony at Lincoln Center

| The prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards, considered "the Oscars" of the culinary world, honored Garrison native Elisabeth Prueitt and her husband, Chad Robertson, owners of Tartine Bakery in San Francisco, as the best pastry chefs or bakers in America. The award designates a chef or baker who serves as a national standard bearer of excellence.
Prueitt and her husband are the co-owners of Tartine Bakery and the Bar Tartine restaurant in San Francisco. Elisabeth's work has appeared in numerous magazines, including Food & Wine, Bon Appétit, and Travel & Leisure, and she has appeared on the television program Martha Stewart Living.
After graduating from CIA in upstate New York they went to France to study baking in the European tradition. They traveled trained and cooked in France and upon their return, opened Bay Village Bakery in Point Reyes Station, California, where they baked bread in wood-fire brick oven and created rustically elegant pastry using many of the techniques they learned abroad. Chad's bread garnered the attention of Alain Ducasse, who wrote about the couple in his book - Harvesting Excellence . They then relocated to Bay Village Bakery to Mill Valley, where Elisabeth's pastry and professional reputation caught the attention of local food lovers who recognized the integrity of fresh organic ingredients and the attention to detail in her desserts.
Tartin Bakery opened in 2002 , where they continue to delight their customers who wait patiently in a line out the door. Tartine Bakery has been rated in the Zagat Survey as "Best Bakery and Best Breakfast in San Francisco
