Welcome Back to the Farm: Rare Early American Farm Animals to Make Their home at Tilly Foster Farm Museum
Welcome back to the farm…spend a leisurely afternoon on July 12 at Tilly Foster Farm in Brewster. Stroll along the pastures of this former horse farm and learn about the rare early American farm animals that now make their summer home at Tilly Foster. These animals - Randall Lineback Cattle and Jacob Sheep - are on loan from George Whipple's farm animal collection at Pine View Farm and harken back to a time when agriculture, especially dairy farming, was the primary industry in Putnam County.
July 12 kicks off a series of events sponsored by Preserve Putnam County, Friends of Tilly Foster, the Tilly Foster Advisory Board and supported by other historical and nonprofit agencies in the County. Visitors can view the animals, can through the property, participate in a children's craft and enjoy the music of singer/ songwriter Montgomery Delaney (2pm performance). In addition, the Putnam Arts Council will host an open house featuring local pottery and basket weaving artisans. The event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome and support farm and educational activities presented by Preserve Putnam County at the Tilly Foster Farm Museum.
Future events:
Jacob Sheep Day, August 9
Antique Farm Equipment Display, September 6 & 7: Diverse collection of antique tractors, gas engines and farm implements courtesy of the Putnam County Antique Machinery Association.
Tilly Foster Day, October 18
Cow Parade, November 15: Festivity marking the end of the 2008 "farm season" as the animals prepare to return to Pine View Farm.
