Putnam Valley Man Faces Charge of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation

Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports Putnam Valley man charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

On June 21, 2008 Deputy Michael Schmidt and Sgt. Szabo were on patrol on Rt. 9 in Philipstown and observed a 1988 Pontiac driving in a southerly direction with an extremely loud muffler. After a traffic stop was initiated Kevin C. Newman, 19 of 4 Doe Dr., Putnam Valley was asked to exit the vehicle because of a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Mr. Nelson was asked when the last time someone smoked marijuana in the car and he stated he was not sure and that the Officers could check his car. A small plastic baggy containing marijuana was found near the center console and taken as evidence . The defendant was issued an appearance ticket for a loud muffler and was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The defendant is to appear July 16, 2008 ion the Philipstown Court to answer the charges

If convicted the defendant could face 15 days in jail or a fine of up to $250.
