Patterson Woman Arrested for Falsely Reporting an Incident
Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Patterson woman for falsely reporting an incident.
On June 8, 2008 at 6:15pm Deputy Matthew Monroe responded to Fox Run Lane, Patterson, for a reported violation of an Order of Protection. Upon arrival, the deputy was assisted by Deputy Thomas lee and Sergeant John Alfano. Upon interviewing, the caller, known to be Ms. Andrea Jana Vangor, 27, told the deputies that her ex-boyfriend, Nelson Mendoza, had been calling her cell phone all day and had attempted to gain entry into her apartment.
Ms. Vangor stated that Mr. Mendoza had been punching her kitchen window from the outside in an attempt to gain entry. She also stated that she had a temporary order of protection against Mr. Mendoza which ordered that he was not allowed to contact her. After: investigation It was revealed that Ms. Vangor did not have any active orders of protection and the window was, in fact, intact.
Deputy Monroe viewed a list of recently received incoming calls on her cell phone and determined that Mr. Mendoza had not called her on the date prior to the deputy's arrival. A neighbor was interviewed and stated he did not observe or hear any signs of a verbal dispute or attempted entry in the apartment. The deputy observed a broken mirrored closet door in the apartment that appeared to have a fist-shaped-sized hole consistent with damage likely to have been caused if she had punched it.
Under further questioning, Ms. Vangor admitted that she had not observed Mr. Mendoza at her apartment at any time on the date. Instead she claimed she had heard a loud noise which was caused by a cutting board falling from the window sill. Ms. Vangor became fearful that someone was trying to break into her apartment and therefore decided to call the sheriff's Department. At that time she gave information to the Sheriff's dispatchers that was later proven to be false through the police investigation.
The deputy questioned her as to why she had originally stated that she had observed Mr. Mendoza outside her residence yelling and attempting to gain entry. She had no reason for changing her story. The deputies and sergeant determined that the original complaint was fictitious. The deputies researched the past calls to the Sheriff's department and found they were unfounded. Ms. Vangor was arrested for Falsely Reporting an Incident 3rd and she was transported to the Putnam County Correction Facility. She was issued an appearance ticket and she was released on her own recognizance pending a June 17, 2008 court date in the Town of Patterson Justice Court.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge the defendant could face up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
