Putnam Hospital Center Opens New Patient Building With Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Amidst dignitaries and politicians, a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new Camarda Care Center at Putnam Hospital Center was held on Thursday, June 26, 2008. The new patient building adjacent to the hospital is named for the family of local developer and philanthropist Paul Camarda.
The beautiful five-story, 113,000 square foot Camarda Care Center will house the Wagner Cancer Pavilion-the hospital's new state-of-the-art cancer center with enhanced radiation therapy services in the Agarwal Center for Radiation Oncology-as well as 70 private patient rooms, physician offices, a new main lobby and a conference center in the Michael T. Weber Community Auditorium for hospital and community use.
Currently, the Carmel hospital, a 164-bed healthcare facility, offers the highest quality medical care to a growing population of more than 150,000 men, women and children who live and work in Putnam, northern Westchester and southern Dutchess counties one of the fastest growing areas in the state. To keep pace with extraordinary growth and the medical needs of the community, a master facilities plan project was undertaken in 2005 to help determine the future direction of the hospital. The result was a $34 million major capital improvements project that included the construction of the new patient building, renovation of 20,000 square feet of existing space and the creation of 400 additional parking spaces.
The entire project was funded by Putnam Hospital Center through a combination of structured borrowing and fundraising through a major capital campaign-The Campaign for Tomorrow.
